Canfor has ended months of speculation and uncertainty, announcing its investment in a state-of-the-art sawmill <\/a>that produces high-value products to withstand market downturns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new mill, expected to cost CA $200 million, will be located on the site of its old mill in Houston, British Columbia, with a capacity of 350 million board feet and will use artificial intelligence (AI).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wood Central understands that the new mill will produce about two-thirds of what the previous mill produced\u00a0\u2014\u00a0and will be flexible enough to produce different wood products based on market demands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In January, Canfor announced the mill shut down, citing problems with access to raw fibre, and the new facility will be “designed to match mill capacity to available resources.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
