As one of the heaviest traded commodities, global shipping is the industry&#8217;s engine room.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.worldstopexports.com\/sawn-wood-exports-country\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">According to the World&#8217;s Top Exports, global sawn wood <\/a>sales totalled US$50.8 billion in 2022. (Image Credit: Ambrey Analytics)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Already, more than 100 freight companies, including logistics giants Maersk, Hapag-Lloyd, Evergreen, and oil giant BP, have paused movements through a channel, while the insurance premiums for those brave enough to use the Red Sea have\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/markets\/commodities\/london-marine-insurers-widen-high-risk-zone-red-sea-attacks-surge-2023-12-18\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">shot up nearly tenfold<\/a>\u00a0since the attacks began.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a result, some shipping companies are already passing down these expenses.
