{"id":17695,"date":"2024-05-19T21:40:05","date_gmt":"2024-05-19T11:40:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/woodcentral.com.au\/?p=17695"},"modified":"2024-10-21T20:19:25","modified_gmt":"2024-10-21T10:19:25","slug":"under-world-expos-giant-roof-largest-timber-build-rises-fast","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/woodcentral.com.au\/under-world-expos-giant-roof-largest-timber-build-rises-fast\/","title":{"rendered":"World Expo&#8217;s Giant Roof: Osaka\u2019s Massive Timber Ring Rises Fast!"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>With less than 11 months to go before Expo 2025, the construction of Osaka, Kansa&#8217;s &#8216;giant roof&#8217;- on its way to becoming the world&#8217;s largest timber structure &#8211; is rising&nbsp;at rapid speed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Designed by Sou Fujimoto, the scale of the all-timber roof is out of this world &#8211; with a 2 km circumference, a 20-metre height, and an 8-metre walkway, the 60,000 square metre &#8220;wooden ring&#8221;\u00a0is the centrepiece of the &#8220;dream island.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The design is meant to evoke a sense of Unity in Diversity,&#8221;&nbsp;according to Mr Fujimoto, who last month told Archinect that the design drew inspiration from the Kiyomizu template in Kyoto &#8211; known as Temple of the Pure Water Spring, one of the world&#8217;s most famous Buddhist temples.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;I want people to feel that this one sky is connecting all parts of the world, which is full of diversity as is shared by everyone,&#8221;\u00a0he said, adding that the design showcases &#8220;the future of wooden architecture to the world and Japan.&#8221;\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/woodcentral.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/GK2Yt6waYAA6195-fotor-20240412125012-1024x682.jpg\" alt=\"On Monday, the Expo 2025 Osaka Kansai official website provided a construction update about the 60,000 square metre giant mass timber roof.
