It comes as Australian\u2010based Source Certain traced hundreds of consignments labelled as Estonian, Latvian or Lithuanian back to forests within Russia\u2014despite a blanket ban on Russian imports imposed in 2022\u2014by combining logistics data with wood-DNA analysis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis intrinsic \u2018bar code\u2019 is a direct reflection of where the timber has grown,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sourcecertain.com\/news-features\/the-times-russian-wood-being-illegally-used-to-build-homes-in-uk\/\">explains Source Certain founder Cameron Scadding<\/a>. (Photo Credit: Supplied)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.housingtoday.co.uk\/buildings-design-and-specification\/think-timber-calls-for-stricter-sourcing-controls-after-russian-timber-enters-uk-housing-supply-chain\/5137925.article\">In response<\/a>, Think Timber\u2014a UK packaging and distribution firm\u2014has introduced a QR-coded system to enforce traceability from forest to building site.
