Public comments are open until March 13, 2026.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\nEPA is proposing to update the referenced editions of several standards used for product specifications and formaldehyde testing, including ANSI A190.1\u20112022 for structural glulam, ASTM D5582\u201122 for desiccator testing, ASTM D6007\u201122 for small\u2011scale chamber testing, ASTM E1333\u201122 for large\u2011chamber testing, BS EN ISO 12460\u20113:2023 and ISO 12460\u20113:2023(E) for gas\u2011analysis methods, and NIST PS 1\u201122 for structural plywood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The agency also plans to incorporate ISO 12460\u20112:2024(en) as an additional small\u2011scale chamber method for quality\u2011control testing under 40 CFR 770.20(b)(1). EPA says the method would expand manufacturers\u2019 analytical options, including the use of laser absorption spectroscopy. California\u2019s Airborne Toxic Control Measure recently adopted the same standard, a development EPA cites in its justification.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The move brings EPA\u2019s testing methods closer to those used in other major jurisdictions, including the European Union, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand, all of which rely on the updated ISO 12460 series standards.
