The programme recognised the importance of Mass Timber in decarbonising the Australian building and construction industry, <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h6 class=\"wp-block-heading\">So, who will this benefit?<\/h6>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/news\/2023-03-29\/federal-government-s-15-billion-manufacturing-fund-passes-senate\/102157030\">According to ABC News<\/a>, the government is using the bill to shore up supply chains and reduce exposure to global pressures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the Bill&#8217;s Explanatory Memorandum, the goal of the fund is to &#8220;invest to support, diversify and transform Australia&#8217;s industry and economy to secure future prosperity and drive sustainable growth&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In essence, it should benefit all Australian businesses connected to the forest and fibre-based industries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/woodcentral.com.au\/afpa-15b-nrf-supports-sustainable-forest-management\/\">Joel Fitzgibbon, CEO of the AFPA<\/a>, stressed that the new fund will support businesses native and plantation timber and fibre industries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThey employ many thousands of people, especially in rural and regional Australia and allow Australians to access essential native timber and fibre products that would otherwise come from less environmentally reputable supply chains internationally.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Industry Minister Ed Husic said new and emerging firms would be prioritised for funding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;We want new and emerging firms that sometimes find it hard to get that investment support,&#8221; Mr Husic said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The reconstruction firm is there to de-risk for other investors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;ve seen so many great ideas that have left our shores only for us to import them back as product that somebody else has manufactured.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/woodcentral.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/zr7wluqxxtl51-1024x753.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3819\" width=\"574\" height=\"422\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Planting more trees is crucial,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/campaignbrief.com\/the-afpa-launches-new-australia-we-need-a-tree-change-campaign-via-galore\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">in recent years the Australian Forest Products Association<\/a>\u00a0has led the push to plant more trees through it\u2019s \u201cWe need a tree change\u201d campaign.
