You have to dare to reach across the other side of the table. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 1994 Norway was the first country to deliver a <a href=\"https:\/\/woodcentral.com.au\/massive-glulam-lattice-girders-used-in-iconic-olympic-venues\/\">&#8216;Green Olympic Games&#8217; largely due to its wood-encouragement policies.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The model for timber-based infrastructure has been replicated with several host cities using the Norwegian model for many games since.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Rune Abrahamsen, CEO of Moelven, the Norwegian government\u2019s preference for timber has had a strong and enduring legacy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe use of timber materials in 1994 has carried great importance for Norway\u2019s construction industry, and it has been a tremendous journey since then, full of innovation,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Moelven is the largest glulam manufacturer in Europe and used mass timber in many of the games venues, including the Hamar Olympiahall, the H\u00e5kons Hall at Lillehammer Olympic Park and the Hamar Olympic Amphitheatre \u2013 host of the ice hockey, figure skating, and short course speed skating.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h6 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Keynote Address by Age Holmestad<\/h6>\n\n\n\n<p>Age Holmestad, the project manager responsible for these projects, was is one of the six keynote speakers involved in the conference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From the time that Lillehammer was awarded the games in 1988, Moelven had to accelerate development to meet the demand for infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Up to 1985, Moelven Limtre supplied glulam structures that could span 60m by placing two glulam arches against each other.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The span had to be doubled to provide the load-bearing structures for the various Games venues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The solution was to join beams to make the glulam arches longer, resulting in the Moelven patented node technology as seen in the Olympic venues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" src=\"https:\/\/woodcentral.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/Massive-Viking-Girders-Wood-Central.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7538\" srcset=\"https:\/\/woodcentral.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/Massive-Viking-Girders-Wood-Central.jpg 640w, https:\/\/woodcentral.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/Massive-Viking-Girders-Wood-Central-600x450.jpg 600w, https:\/\/woodcentral.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/Massive-Viking-Girders-Wood-Central-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/woodcentral.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/Massive-Viking-Girders-Wood-Central-560x420.jpg 560w, https:\/\/woodcentral.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/Massive-Viking-Girders-Wood-Central-80x60.jpg 80w, https:\/\/woodcentral.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/Massive-Viking-Girders-Wood-Central-265x198.jpg 265w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Holmestad, the Olympics opened architects&#8217; They include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Uwe Kies, Secretary General of InnovaWood, the European network for wood science, research, innovation, and education. He is also the chair of the Wood4Bauhaus Alliance, a policy platform to promote more wood use in the building sector.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Kjetil Tr\u00e6dal, the co-founder of Norwegian architecture practice Sn\u00f8hetta. <a href=\"https:\/\/woodcentral.com.au\/imagine-floating-in-the-air-a-unique-stay-at-snohetta-bolder-star-lodges\/\">Earlier this year, Wood Central covered the practices headline-grabbing Bolder Start Lodges.<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Jennifer Cover, president and CEO of WoodWorks, Wood Products Council, a US-based program that has converted more than 3000 projects to timber construction.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Professor Keith Crews, director, Australian Research Council, Research Hub to Advance Timber in the Built Environment. Professor Crews, who specialises in large-scale timber structures, has authored more than 350 papers and co-authored the Australian Timber Design Handbook.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Andrea Frangi, Professor of Timber Structures at the Institute of Structural Engineering at ETH Z\u00fcrich.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u00c5ge Holmestad director of Moelven Limtre, one of the most experienced and award-winning experts in glulam industry.
